Congratulations Carl, What was it like? Did you need your machete? See any monkeys? Tell us all about it.

I have been reading up on Peru for our up coming trip to Peru in December in the Lonely Planet guide and came across your information in the book.
We are arriving in Iquitos on the 31st December via Lima and staying over that night in Iquitos before leaving the next day to go up river to our lodge. We are avid golfers and would like to find out if it would be possible to play a round of golf at the Amazon Golf Course. We would obviously need to hire the clubs as well.

Hello Jane,
Thank you for your query.
The Amazon Golf Course opened officially on the lst May. We are certainly looking forward to seeing you in December. Yes we do have clubs to rent.

I`m not much of a golfer, but golfing the Amazon Golf Course was a really fun experience. Me and my friend Cass had a great time at this unique course.

The service was wonderful. One of the employees volunteered to be our caddy for the entire course. On the sixth hole, another employee came driving along the golf course in a motorcycle (typical transport in Iquitos) and gave us each a free bottle of ice cold water.

There are lots of sand and water traps; watch out for the amazonian caimans.

We were very lucky to golf the course so soon after it opened, as we had the course all to ourselves. All and all it was a great time, and one of the highlights of our stay in Iquitos.

Hello Everybody,
Actually I think I was one of the first people ever to play golf in the amazon. Although it was before the club was open, and we played for free I did play there, I suppose not officially.

Please read my account of that glorious day by clicking here ;

I just had to golf the only course on the Amazon. The hazzards ate me, but the bugs were not to be found.
Had a great morning.

Great Mike!

We will talk about buying a membership. I am hoping that my son will get a group together (students and/or fellow members of the GCSAA – Golf Course Superintendants Assn of of America) to come down and play golf, see the course, study, etc. from college one day! Sounds like a plan.

I want to learn to play,so, will be out at the course very soon!
