Progress Report, Preliminary Goals at the Amazon Golf Course Completed on Schedule
We did it. We did what we said we would do…
Thanks to the generous donations of many members and supporters, the hard work of our maintenance crew, and the organizational skills of our office personnel we have done what seemed nearly impossible one month ago.
Lets start at the entrance where we replaced the broken bridge that only a motorcycle could feel safe using. Now trucks full of sand, compost, beer, and pop, cars and motocars can enter with no problems.
We planted over 100 small palm trees, including lining the fence along the road and both sides of the lane leading to the club house.
There is not one blade of long grass or weeds anywhere on the 24 acres, including along the ditch and stream along the road in front of the Amazon Golf Course property.
The volleyball and soccer field is mowed and cleaned and ready for play.
The clubhouse has electricity, a new water tower, with a large water tank, flush toilets, sinks, and showers, towels, pure water to drink, two nice Iquiteña coolers, 40 cases of Iquiteña Extra beer, several cases of Coke, and Inca Cola, hammocks, tables and chairs. Two shade tents are right outside the clubhouse.
The driving range shade/rain structure has a new thatch roof.
The well has a new 1 HP motor, and a new thatch roof.
The new push mower mowed the greens close and clean. The greens have been rolled to firm them. Every green has a new cup, and new flag.
All of the palm trees have been groomed of dead fronds.
All sand traps have new sand.
All water hazards are clean.
The three bridges over the stream that runs across the property have been repaired to make them safe.
A shade/rain structure with a thatch roof has been built across the stream on the back part of the Amazon Golf Course.
Plus dozens of small details to numerous to mention, and problems to overcome that we couldn’t have imagined.
Our goal was to accomplish all of the above before our big barbecue tomorrow and we did it and it is well done. I am very proud of the whole crew. They worked so hard. Thanks everyone.
It is 10:00pm, and Marmelita is still working with a group of women including our chef Judith, cleaning fresh killed, plucked, and butchered chickens for the charcoal grills tomorrow. (They finished after midnight, refrigerated and iced down the fresh chicken, and left for the Amazon Golf Course at 6:00am May 31, getting ready ahead of time). We will have enough food to serve 200 hungry golfers, and plenty of cold beer and pop. Come on out to the Amazon Golf Course anytime around 10:00am on May 31 and see how beautiful it is. The food should start coming off the grill around noon. We hope to see you there.

Dear Bill, Mike, Marmelita and all the people who has been so kind to make this day and our club become a success.
THANK YOU!
I’m so sad that I cannot be there to celebrate with you, but I’m ready to help more people get to Iquitos to enjoy and play at the Amazon Golf Course in Iquitos.
Have a great day and enjoy your fantastic work.
Best wishes – CK
Good Job. Best wishes from all of us here in Grantsburg WI for your huge contribution to the community. I expect our local newspaper will do a story on the golf course again as they did in the past.
Hello All at the amazon Golf Course,
Very interested to read about the Amazon Course and what you have already achieved. I have never been to Latin America although I have had longings to do so. I have had invitations to Bogata by the British Consul, who has had lessons with me, and a Chilean friend in Santiago . So a round trip is a possibility with coaching thrown in! My daughter accepted a proposal of marriage as they overlooked the sunrise at Macchu Picchu 3 years ago they went on to play at La Paz G.C. The trouble is I have one son who lives near Cape Town with 2 children and my 2nd son now has a Hong Kong girl friend. So we are being pulled in all directions!
We have plentiful wildlife here but nothing as exotic as you. But the rabbits and moles are making a very unwelcome contribution at present. 5 years ago we played Hans Merensky in the Kruger Park which was interesting!
I take group trips abroad and am looking to broaden my horizons so a visit is not out of the question.
