Progress Report On The 2,000 Trees and Blooming Bushes Landscape Project At The Amazon Golf Course

On May 13 in the Amazon Golf Course Blog article; Working on Changing the Amazon Golf Course to Your Great Amazon Golf Course , I announced my ambitious plan to plant 2,000 trees and blooming bushes to transform the Amazon Golf Course into Your Great Amazon Golf Course. I believe this plan is the fastest, least expensive, best way to add value to our investment.

I said, “I am personally going to plant 200 trees, bushes and shrubs, but we need you to step up and help with the other 1,800 plants that will make the big difference.”

Talk is cheap, and this project is huge. I am very confident in myself. Some of you do not know me well. You can trust me to do what I say I will do.

The driveway to the clubhouse is lined on both sides with blooming bushes.
Marmelita and I spent several hours walking the 24 acres trying to get an accurate count of the new trees and blooming bushes that have been planted in the last two months.

I only counted the trees and bushes that I was sure would live, baring some disaster, like an attack of leaf cutter ants. Some of those were subjective but I believe if I erred, it was a conservative count.

The total count of new trees and blooming bushes that will live and grow and beautify the Amazon Golf Course in the future as of July 17, 2009, is 402.

Of the 402 trees and bushes, the Pomarosa tree has our best success rate with 86 that should develop into graceful trees that look like they are pruned every day into a christmas tree shape, but they grow that way naturally without pruning, have a beautiful blossom, and bear a fruit we call jungle apple, good for humans and wildlife, and provide shade.

This Alamanda bush is a wonderful addition to the Amazon Golf Course.
Our biggest failures have been the Asai Palms with about 1/3 survival rate. I am only going to count 21 as living, although there well may be more. Also our Ficus tree survival rate has been poor. I am only going to count 15 as living. That is a big disappointment for me because Ficus is one of my personal favorites. I plan on making Ficus planting one of my next focus points.

We have 109 blooming bushes planted around the Amazon Golf Course and they will make a big impact in the next year.

We have 37 Huasai Palms, 3 Oil Nut Palms, 12 unknown palms, 85 Amarillo Coconut palms, and 4 aguaje palms.

We have 19 croutons, we need 100. One bouganvillia vine, we need one more. Two limes, a Gauyaba, a Copoauzu, and 6 unknown trees.
I want to thank Anthony Giardenelli, Elizabeth Collis, and Rodrigo for donating trees and plants to help with the 2,000 trees and blooming bushes landscape project for the Amazon Golf Course.
We have begged, borrowed, bought, stolen, and planted I guess 600 trees and bushes to end up with 402 trees and bushes that will live. Only 1,598 more to go.
Trees take a long time to grow, even here in the tropics. I don’t want to wait any longer. Lets get started on this.
The benefits to us will be felt in many ways from a more beautiful golf course that will be easier to promote which equals a better business with increased property value. The reforestation to create a jungle garden effect will be good for our environment, increase the bird and wildlife population and make the Amazon Golf Course a better place to be. Better business model, increased property value, easier to promote, good for the environment!!! Are you with me?
What do you think so far? Do you think this is a worthwhile project? Is it something you want to help us with? Send us a donation for the 2,000 tree and blooming bush landscape project today. A donation of $50 will buy a motocarro absolutely full of blooming bushes, Croutons, Ficus, and Palms that will go a long way toward creating our Great Amazon Golf Course. Thanks.
