Hi again. How are you? I hadn’t reported in lately until yesterday. I hope you read that article, A Day At The Amazon Golf Course, or at least look at the photos. It tells some of what we are doing to make your golf course more beautiful and better to play.

On May 13 I published an article titled, Working on Changing the Amazon Golf Course to Your Great Amazon Golf Course, where I shared a vision with you of landscaping your Amazon Golf Course with 2,000 trees and blooming bushes.

I knew that would be a huge project, with a huge potential reward. I promised to personally plant 200 trees and blooming bushes, and asked for your help with the other 1800. I want to thank Anthony Giardenelli, Elizabeth Collis, and Rodrigo for donating trees and plants to help with the 2,000 trees and blooming bushes landscape project for the Amazon Golf Course. Where are the rest of you on this? I am up over 600 and counting. Don’t you think it is a good vision? Would you rather your golf course looked like a 24 acre cow pasture? Please give us a little help? A donation of $50 will buy more plants than we can haul in a motocar. Email me; bill@amazongolfcourse.com and I will let you know how to send $50 or more by MoneyGram to help the Amazon Golf Course. Thanks.

My last report on the numbers of new plants was July 17 in the article titled, Progress Report On The 2,000 Trees and Blooming Bushes Landscape Project At The Amazon Golf Course. If you haven’t already read that article please follow the link to get that report. As of July 17 we had 402 plants that I said would be sure to live baring some disaster like a Leaf-cutter Ant attack or an animal biting off the small trees. Well, I never thought about our neighbors on both the east and west side burning off their grass and having it spread through our fence and killing several palm and pomarosa trees. That was very disappointing, but we are replanting them, and have made more progress in other areas.

The total count of new trees and blooming bushes that will live and grow and beautify the Amazon Golf Course in the future as of October 3rd, 2009 is 761. I only counted the trees and bushes that I was sure would live, baring some disaster like fire. Some of those were subjective but I believe if I erred, it was a conservative count.

We have;

19 Ficus Trees
54 Pomarosa trees, would have been 30 more except for the fire our neighbor to the east started.
105 Crotons
92 Coconut trees
280 blooming bushes
149 Palm trees in several different species, would have been 20 more except for the fire.
30 Amasisa trees
3 Cedro trees
29 tropical fruit trees in 8 species

Total 761

We are propagating our hibiscus bushes by rooting cuttings, and plan to do the same with the crotons. That will save money but take more time. Figure one month to establish roots, and a month to grow in the pot before transplanting a small start to it’s permanent location.

It is just a guess but we have probably planted 900 trees and bushes to end up with 761 that will definitely live. I hope that I will be able to report next month that we have 1,000 trees and bushes that will live, but 239 in one month is probably asking too much. That would put us half way to our goal in 6 months. Not great, but not bad. I thought it would go faster, but I thought we would have more help.

The benefits of our tree and blooming bush project will be a more beautiful golf course that will be remarkable. People will talk about it, word of mouth free publicity, making it easier to promote which means better business and increased property value. The reforestation to create a jungle garden effect will be good for our environment, increase the bird and wildlife population and make the Amazon Golf Course a better place to be. Better business model, increased property value, easier to promote, good for the environment, more enjoyable golf!!!

What do you think? Think shade! Donate $50 toward shade at the Amazon Golf Course.
