What happened Friday at the Amazon Golf Course

I closed down the Dawn on the Amazon Tours and Cruises office and the Amazon Explorers Club Lounge again on Friday and took 6 of my crew to join the 9 grounds keepers at the Amazon Golf Club for another big productive, wonderful day. Mike Collis joined our work force.

We spread 50 kilos of dry fertilizer around 900 trees and blooming bushes.

It’s not as easy as it sounds.

Then we covered the fertilizer with our special compost mixture.

We also sprayed liquid fertilizer, foliar feeding all of the palm trees and crotons.

We used lots of our special compost mixture around all of the trees and plants.

The compost has to be carried in by hard manual labor, either on a back or by wheel barrow.

We had a golfer named Ron that played a couple of rounds and loved the course.

What happened Saturday at the Amazon Golf Course

Saturday was another productive day at the Amazon Golf Course.

We sprayed a different formula of liquid fertilizer to foliar feed all of the blooming bushes and the flower gardens, containing a higher percentage of nitrogen than we used on the palms and crotons.

I walked all around the golf course examining the crotons for animal damage. Only two plants were damaged.

I was worried that animals would be attracted to the minerals and micro-nutrients in the liquid fertilizer so I walked all around the golf course examining the crotons and palms that we sprayed yesterday. I was relieved that only two crotons had been partially eaten. They will grow back. I hope we didn’t have more damage Saturday night.

The grounds crew are always working on our project to improve the greens to make them smoother and firmer.

I am impressed with the improvement of all the greens. The crew have worked hard. They carry sand in sacks on their backs and in a wheel barrow from near the club house, even all the way to the three farthest greens. Every green is getting an equal treatment.

I am proud of how hard our crew work for so little pay.

Saturday is pay day so Marmelita and I payed the crew around 12:30. Everyone seemed happy.

It was a pleasure having a pretty young woman to pose at the Amazon Golf Course.

We are transforming the Amazon Golf Course into the most attractive recreational facility in Iquitos. There is still much work to do, and many improvements to make but we are headed in the right direction.

Every time I go to the golf course it looks better than the last time I was there. Bill you, Mike, the ladys and your band of hard working grounds keepers have done wonders with the place and I know it has been a battle financely (misspelled) as well as the hard work involved. My hat off to all of you!
