First Hole in One at the Amazon Golf Course

Work started on the construction of the Amazon Golf Course in April 2004 and although it was not completed until late 2006 the course was playable. Over the last 3 years many golfers have tried this interesting but difficult course. The 2,500-yard, 9 hole course boasts extra’s not available on other courses, such as piranhas in the water traps and red tailed boas in the rough. Each golfer is provided with a machete when he or she takes on the par 35 course.

Over these last few years only one golfer claimed to achieve one of the accolades in golf, a “Hole in One”. Recently a golfer named Joe Boatright, a 56 year old oil worker who hails from Coleman, Texas, USA, achieved a “Hole in One”.

When interviewed after his remarkable achievement Joe said, “I guess I started playing golf about 30 years ago. I got addicted to the game and even though I never had much time to play when I was younger, I always followed the sport.”  

“I get to play pretty much whenever I want to now, but the problem is my score’s not much different than it was years ago. The hole was the 4th hole, a 110 yard, par 3, with the green set on an island surrounded by piranha infested water. A lot of balls are lost in the water there, so I teed up a new Topflight 2000 out of my bag since I don’t like that ball and didn’t care if I lost it. That’s the only time that ball was ever hit. I still have it locked away with my wife’s jewelry. I had drawn Hans Jarlind and Adam Drews for partners for the round. The weather was clear and hot, and I struck the ball at about 10:00am. I think I shot about 80 or 82 that day. It’s a great thrill to get a hole in one. I felt so good, I went to Bella Vista & drank beer all afternoon.”
